## Why That Mark Is Still There Three Weeks Later: When Your Skin Stops Healing Like It Used To

A small spot appeared two weeks ago. The spot is gone, but a brown mark is still
there. A scratch from the garden takes ages to fade. The redness after a facial
lasts a day longer than it used to. And the serum everyone raves about seems to
do nothing at all.

If you recognise yourself here, you are noticing something real: your skin repairs
itself more slowly than it did in your twenties. Here is why, and what you can do
to help it.

## **Does skin really heal slower with age?**

Yes. Skin keeps healing at every age, but the process becomes slower. Research reviews
on ageing skin describe healing that still happens, just with a delay.

There are three main reasons.

### **1. Your skin renews itself more slowly**

Your skin is always replacing old cells with new ones. A classic study measured
how long new cells take to travel up to the surface: about 20 days in people aged
18 to 29, and roughly ten days longer in older adults.

In everyday life, that means old, dull cells stay on the surface longer, marks fade
more slowly, and the complexion can look less bright.

### **2. Hormones play a bigger role than most women realise**

Oestrogen helps the skin repair itself: it supports the cells that make collagen
and helps close and rebuild damaged skin. Scientists now consider the fall in oestrogen
to be one of the main reasons healing slows with age.

Research comparing women before and after menopause found that, after menopause,
skin closed over more slowly and rebuilt less collagen. This is why many women notice
the change around perimenopause and menopause. We explain this stage in [Menopause and Your Skin](https://docs.google.com/document/d/1qZOn3lwNDbHdS3mWcYcEwTxdJ3CzvmrCNbZQzXQZH0g/edit#bookmark=id.lt77f5kvclp).

### **3. Years of sun leave the skin less resilient**

Long-term UV exposure weakens collagen and the skin barrier. In a sunny country
like Malta, that adds up over the years. A weaker barrier lets moisture out and
irritants in, so the skin stays inflamed for longer. Learn more in [Sun Damage in Malta](https://bdrclinicmalta.com/sun-damage-malta/).

## **Signs your skin is repairing more slowly**

 * Marks left by spots stay for weeks or months
 * Small cuts and scratches take longer to fade
 * Redness after waxing, peels or facials lasts longer
 * Your skin looks duller, even with a good routine
 * New products take longer to show any result
 * Your skin reacts to products it used to tolerate

## **Why your skincare seems to “stop working”**

When skin renews more slowly, results simply take longer to appear. A dermatologist
interviewed on this topic explains that you can usually see a first benefit after
about a month, but the full effect of a product appears after three to four months
of regular use.

So before you give up on a good product, give it time. And before you add more and
more products, remember that a stressed, slow-healing skin often needs less irritation,
not more.

## **Dark marks after spots: why they last longer**

When skin is inflamed, it can leave a brown mark behind, called post-inflammatory
hyperpigmentation. These marks are especially common in women with breakouts during
perimenopause, and they fade more slowly when skin renewal is slower. The Maltese
sun can make them darker. See our guide to [pigmentation and melasma treatment](https://bdrclinicmalta.com/melasma-treatment-malta/)
for more.

## **How to help your skin repair itself**

### **At home**

 * **Protect the barrier first.** Use a gentle cleanser and a moisturiser that keeps
   water in.
 * **Use SPF every day.** Sun slows repair and darkens marks.
 * **Choose gentle renewal.** Ingredients such as retinol and AHAs help the skin
   renew, but in a sensitive skin they need a formula and routine that keep irritation
   low.
 * **Be patient.** Give a good routine at least three months.
 * **Look after the basics.** Sleep, stress, nutrition and not smoking all affect
   how well skin repairs.

## **How BDR Noon Clinic Malta helps slow-healing skin**

![PEELING SKIN CARE (NOON CLINIC MALTA)](https://bdrclinicmalta.com/wp-content/uploads/
2026/03/PEELING-SKIN-CARE-NOON-CLINIC-MALTA-1024x577.jpg)

Our approach is simple: calm the skin, rebuild its barrier, then encourage renewal
at a pace your skin can handle.

### **Start with a skin assessment**

A professional skin check shows what is really going on: a damaged barrier, slow
renewal, pigmentation or a mix. That decides which treatment comes first, and which
ones should wait.

### **Repair the barrier: DermShield™ technology**

**NOON Aesthetics** skincare is built on the patented DermShield™ technology, designed
to let active ingredients work with less irritation. That matters when skin is slow
to recover. The in-clinic **DermShield™ Facial** focuses on barrier repair, and
at home products such as [HydroCalming + Vit Complex™](https://bdrclinicmalta.com/product/hydrocalming-vit-complex/),
[Halo Ronic™ Serum](https://bdrclinicmalta.com/product/halo-ronic-serum/) and [DeFlame™](https://bdrclinicmalta.com/product/deflame/)
help calm and hydrate.

### **Prepare before, recover after: NOON Pre + Post-Procedure Programs**

If your skin takes longer to recover, preparation matters as much as the treatment
itself. NOON’s [Pre + Post-Procedure™ Programs](https://noonaesthetics.mt/product/pre-post-procedure-programs/)
are complete routines designed to prepare the skin before aesthetic treatments and
support it afterwards. Ask us about them before your next peel, microneedling or
laser session.

### **Encourage renewal: regenerative treatments**

![](https://bdrclinicmalta.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/exosome-facial-Malta-1024x555.
webp)

 * The [Morphiya exosome facial](https://bdrclinicmalta.com/exosome-facial-morphiya/)
   supports the skin’s own regeneration, with gradual improvement in texture and
   glow.
 * **Professional microneedling**, including the Campomats 1NEED Pro system and
   BDR Needling, encourages the skin’s natural repair response and collagen. [See microneedling treatments](https://bdrclinicmalta.com/treatments/microneedling-rejuvenation-and-lifting/)
 * **Gentle professional peels** help shift dull surface cells and fade marks. [Learn about chemical peels in Malta](https://bdrclinicmalta.com/chemical-peels-malta/)

### **Support from within**

**MyPureSkin** Swiss nutricosmetics, such as [MyCollagenRepair](https://bdrclinicmalta.com/product/mycollagenrepair/),
can complement your plan as part of a healthy routine. Supplements support good
skin care, they do not replace it.

## **Frequently asked questions**

### **Why does my skin take longer to heal after 40?**

Skin cells renew more slowly with age, and falling oestrogen around perimenopause
and menopause slows the skin’s repair process. Years of sun exposure add to this.

### **How long does skin cell turnover take?**

Research found about 20 days in young adults and around ten days longer in older
adults. Some sources estimate it can reach 40 to 60 days in mature skin.

### **Why do my acne marks take so long to fade?**

Brown marks after spots fade as the skin renews. When renewal slows, the marks stay
longer. Sun exposure can also make them darker.

### **Should I exfoliate more if my skin is slow to renew?**

Not necessarily. Over-exfoliating a sensitive skin can damage the barrier and slow
healing further. Gentle, regular renewal with low-irritation products works better.

### **Can I still have aesthetic treatments if my skin heals slowly?**

Yes, with the right preparation and aftercare. Your practitioner may adjust the
intensity, space sessions further apart, and recommend a pre and post-treatment
routine.

## **Give your skin the support it needs now**

Slower healing is a normal part of how skin changes, not a sign that something is
wrong with you. With the right plan, your skin can stay calm, strong and bright.

## Menopause and Your Skin: Why It Suddenly Feels Like Someone Else’s (and What Actually Helps)

- Link: https://bdrclinicmalta.com/menopause-skin-changes/
- Published: 2026-10-09T18:33:11+00:00
- Author: nancy.conde.blandon@gmail.com

The cream you have used for years suddenly stings. Your skin feels tight by lunchtime.
A breakout appears for the first time since you were a teenager, and your cheeks
flush at the worst possible moment.

Many women describe this stage in the same way: “My skin doesn’t feel like mine
anymore.”

If this is you, there is a clear reason behind it, and it is not that you are doing
something wrong. Menopause changes the skin from the inside. Once you understand
how, it becomes much easier to choose what actually helps.

## **When does menopause start affecting your skin?**

Menopause usually happens around the age of 51. But the years before it, called
perimenopause, already bring big hormonal ups and downs. That is why many women
notice skin changes in their forties, long before their periods stop.

## **Why does menopause change your skin so much?**

The main reason is oestrogen. This hormone does much more than regulate your cycle.
Your skin has many oestrogen receptors, especially on the face. When oestrogen drops,
the skin loses one of its most important helpers.

### **Collagen drops quickly**

Oestrogen helps your skin make collagen, the protein that keeps it firm and thick.
Research estimates that women lose about 30% of their skin collagen in the first
five years after menopause, and that this loss is linked more to the time since
menopause than to age itself.

Some of the important research on oestrogen and skin collagen was carried out by
doctors at the University of Malta. It is one reason this topic matters so much
for women here.

### **Skin holds less water**

Oestrogen also supports hyaluronic acid, a natural moisture-holding substance in
the skin, and helps the outer layer keep water in. Without it, skin becomes drier,
rougher and more prone to fine lines.

### **Skin becomes more sensitive and slower to repair**

With less oestrogen, the skin barrier is weaker and the skin heals more slowly.
Products and treatments you tolerated before may now cause redness or irritation.
We explore this in more detail in [Why Your Skin Doesn’t Heal Like It Used To](https://docs.google.com/document/d/1sCSQXAjDEkP5_eTbw1OxN4GKxmwAeb7qYVQmfI1GrXg/edit#bookmark=id.ec37rzos8zzh).

## **The most common menopause skin changes**

You are far from alone. In one survey at a menopause clinic, every single woman
reported at least one skin symptom, yet almost half had never mentioned it to their
doctor.

 * **Dryness and itching**, even with a rich moisturiser
 * **Loss of firmness**, especially around the cheeks and [jawline](https://bdrclinicmalta.com/jawline-aging-women/)
 * **Thinner, more fragile skin**
 * **More fine lines and wrinkles**, appearing faster than before
 * **Redness and flushing**: hot flushes and extra sensitivity can make rosacea
   worse
 * **Adult breakouts**: acne affects around a quarter of women in perimenopause,
   and the marks it leaves often take longer to fade
 * **Uneven pigmentation**, which can be worse in a sunny climate like Malta’s (
   see our guide to [melasma](https://bdrclinicmalta.com/melasma-treatment-malta/))
 * **Hair thinning**, reported by more than half of women in the same survey (see
   our article on [hair loss in Malta](https://bdrclinicmalta.com/hair-loss-treatment-malta/))

## **Why your usual skincare may stop working**

Menopausal skin needs a different balance. It still benefits from strong, proven
ingredients such as retinol, which helps the skin make collagen. But because the
skin is drier and more reactive, those same ingredients can now cause irritation.

Dermatologists recommend a few simple principles for this stage:

 * A gentle cleanser that does not strip the skin
 * Products without common irritants if your skin has become sensitive
 * A collagen-supporting active such as retinol, introduced carefully
 * High-protection sunscreen every day, all year round

## **A note on hormone therapy**

Studies show that hormone replacement therapy (HRT) can improve skin thickness,
hydration and collagen. HRT is a medical decision that depends on your whole health,
so it is a conversation to have with your doctor or gynaecologist. Skin treatments
and good skincare work alongside that conversation, whatever you decide.

## **Be careful with “menopause miracle” products**

The menopause market is growing fast, and not every product lives up to its promises.
A 2025 review in the European Medical Journal warned that many products marketed
to menopausal women lack strong evidence. Choosing professional advice over trial
and error saves time, money and frustration.

## **How BDR Noon Clinic Malta supports menopausal skin**

We start with a skin assessment, because no two women go through menopause the same
way. Some need calm and hydration first, others firmness, others help with breakouts
or pigmentation.

### **1. Calm and rebuild the skin barrier**

![PEELING SKIN CARE (NOON CLINIC MALTA)](https://bdrclinicmalta.com/wp-content/uploads/
2026/03/PEELING-SKINCARE-treatments-NOON-CLINIC-MALTA-1024x577.jpg)

**NOON Aesthetics** professional skincare is built on the patented DermShield™ technology,
which allows strong ingredients such as retinol, azelaic acid and AHAs to be used
daily with less irritation. For sensitive, menopausal skin, that is a real advantage.
Products often recommended at this stage include:

 * [Retinol™ Charisma](https://bdrclinicmalta.com/product/retinol-charisma/) to
   support collagen and smoother skin
 * [Anti-Aging Peptide Complex™](https://bdrclinicmalta.com/product/anti-aging-peptide-complex/)
   for firmness
 * [HydroCalming + Vit Complex™](https://bdrclinicmalta.com/product/hydrocalming-vit-complex/)
   and [Halo Ronic™ Serum](https://bdrclinicmalta.com/product/halo-ronic-serum/)
   for hydration and comfort
 * [DeFlame™](https://bdrclinicmalta.com/product/deflame/) for redness-prone skin
 * [Brush & Go™ SPF 50](https://bdrclinicmalta.com/product/brush-go-spf-50/) for
   daily protection

In the clinic, the **DermShield™ Facial** focuses on repairing the skin barrier
with a customised infusion.

### **2. Restore firmness**

![BDR clinic-Morpheus8 malta micronedling](https://bdrclinicmalta.com/wp-content/
uploads/2025/10/BDR-clinic-Morpheus8-malta-1024x683.jpg)

To encourage your own collagen where it has dropped, we offer:

 * **Morpheus8**, microneedling with radiofrequency for tighter, firmer skin on
   the face, neck and décolleté
 * **Exilis Face Lifting**, a comfortable, non-invasive radiofrequency treatment
 * **MCH Mesoporation**, a needle-free treatment for mature or dehydrated skin

[See all lifting and rejuvenation treatments](https://bdrclinicmalta.com/treatments/microneedling-rejuvenation-and-lifting/)

### **3. Improve skin quality with regenerative care**

![morphiya](https://bdrclinicmalta.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/morphiya-BDR-Clinic-
Malta-edited.jpg)

The [Morphiya exosome facial](https://bdrclinicmalta.com/exosome-facial-morphiya/)
supports the skin’s own renewal and is often combined with microneedling for texture
and glow.

### **4. Support your skin from within**

![MyPureSkin](https://bdrclinicmalta.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/MyPureSkin4-
edited-1024x483.jpeg)

**MyPureSkin** Swiss nutricosmetics, such as [MyCollagenRepair](https://bdrclinicmalta.com/product/mycollagenrepair/),
can be part of a “beauty from within” routine. Research on collagen supplements
is still developing, so we see them as support for your skin plan, not a replacement
for treatment. The in-clinic [Deep Hydration and Collagen Lift](https://bdrclinicmalta.com/product/deep-hydration-and-collagen-lift/)
facial combines MyPureSkin actives with in-clinic care.

## **Frequently asked questions**

### **Can menopause cause dry skin?**

Yes. Lower oestrogen reduces the skin’s natural moisture-holding substances and
weakens its barrier, so skin often feels drier and tighter.

### **How much collagen do women lose during menopause?**

Research estimates about 30% of skin collagen in the first five years after menopause.

### **Can you get acne during menopause?**

Yes. Around a quarter of women experience acne during perimenopause, often around
the lower face, and the marks can take longer to fade.

### **Is retinol safe for menopausal skin?**

Retinol is one of the most useful ingredients for menopausal skin, but it can cause
dryness and irritation. Starting slowly, using a formula designed to reduce irritation
and wearing daily SPF helps. Ask a professional if your skin is very sensitive.

### **Can skin treatments replace HRT?**

No. HRT is a medical treatment that affects the whole body. Skin treatments target
the visible changes in your skin. Many women use both, and some choose only skin
treatments. Your doctor can advise on HRT.

### **When should I start a menopause skincare plan?**

Ideally in perimenopause, before the biggest collagen loss happens. But it is never
too late to improve hydration, comfort and firmness.

## **You don’t have to “just accept it”**

Menopause is a natural stage of life, and your skin deserves care that fits it.
If your skin has changed and your old routine no longer works, a professional assessment
is the simplest way to know what your skin needs now.

## Your Face Looks Tired, But You Aren’t: Why Women Lose Facial Volume (and What Actually Restores It)

- Link: https://bdrclinicmalta.com/facial-volume-loss-women/
- Published: 2026-10-09T18:15:49+00:00
- Author: nancy.conde.blandon@gmail.com

You slept well. You feel fine. And yet someone at work asks if you are tired, again.

Maybe you noticed it in a photo first. Your cheeks look flatter than they used to.
There is a hollow under your eyes that concealer cannot hide. Your face seems thinner,
even though the scale says nothing has changed.

If this sounds familiar, you are not imagining it, and you are not alone. Losing
facial volume is one of the most common changes women notice from their mid-thirties
onwards. The good news is that it has clear causes, and today there are gentle,
natural-looking ways to address it.

## **What is facial volume loss?**

Facial volume loss means the soft, full areas of your face slowly become flatter
or more hollow. It usually shows up in the cheeks, under the eyes, at the temples
and around the mouth.

When volume drops, the skin has less support underneath. That is why a face can
look tired, sad or older without a single deep wrinkle.

## **Why does your face lose volume with age?**

For years, ageing was explained mostly by gravity: skin gets loose and drops. Researchers
now know it is more layered than that. Facial ageing involves changes in the fat
under the skin, the bone underneath, the skin itself and the muscles, all at the
same time.

### **1. The fat pads in your face shrink and shift**

The fat in your face is not one even layer. It sits in separate small “pads” or
compartments. Studies from plastic surgeons Rohrich and Pessa showed that because
these compartments are separate, the face does not age as one block. Some areas
deflate earlier than others.

That explains why one woman notices hollow under-eyes first while her friend notices
flat cheeks.

### **2. The bones of your face change too**

This surprises most people. Research using CT scans found that facial bones slowly
recede with age, including around the eye sockets, the cheekbones and the upper
jaw. When the foundation becomes smaller, the skin and fat above it lose their support.

### **3. Your skin loses collagen**

Collagen is the protein that keeps skin firm and thick. As it declines, the skin
becomes thinner and less able to hold its shape over the fat and bone below. We
explain this in more detail in our guide to [collagen loss in women after 35](https://bdrclinicmalta.com/collagen-loss-women-after-35/).

## **Why do women notice it sooner than men?**

Two reasons stand out in the research.

First, studies of facial bones found that women lose facial bone volume at a younger
age than men, which means the signs of ageing can appear earlier. Researchers link
this partly to menopause, since women tend to lose bone faster during that time.

Second, hormones affect the skin directly. Dermatology research estimates that women
lose about 30% of their skin collagen in the first five years after menopause. Some
of the key work on this link between oestrogen and skin collagen comes from researchers
at the University of Malta.

So if your face seems to change faster in your forties and fifties, there is a real
biological reason behind it. It is not a lack of effort on your part.

## **Does living in Malta make it worse?**

Sun is one of the biggest outside causes of collagen breakdown, and Malta has sunshine
for most of the year. Years of UV exposure weaken the skin’s support, which makes
volume loss look more obvious. Read more in our article on [sun damage in Malta](https://bdrclinicmalta.com/sun-damage-malta/).

Daily sunscreen will not bring volume back, but it helps protect the collagen you
still have, and it protects the results of any treatment you choose.

## **Signs you may be losing facial volume**

 * People often say you look tired, even when you are rested
 * Your cheeks look flatter, especially in side profile
 * Dark, hollow areas under the eyes that make-up does not fix
 * Temples that look slightly sunken
 * Deeper lines from the nose to the corners of the mouth
 * Your face looks thinner in photos, without any weight loss

## **Can creams fix facial volume loss?**

A good skincare routine improves the quality of your skin: hydration, glow, texture
and fine lines. It is worth doing. But no cream can replace lost fat or bone underneath
the skin.

That is why the most natural-looking results usually come from combining two things:
gently restoring volume where it was lost, and improving the quality and firmness
of the skin on top. Plastic surgery researchers describe this same two-part approach
as the most effective way to refresh an ageing face.

## **How is facial volume loss treated at BDR Noon Clinic Malta?**

Every plan starts with a face-to-face consultation, because the right treatment
depends on where you have lost volume and how your skin looks today.

### **Restoring volume: hyaluronic acid dermal fillers**

Our medical team uses Plurvel Switzerland hyaluronic acid fillers to softly replace
volume in areas such as the cheeks, and to define contours like the jawline and
chin. Hyaluronic acid is a substance your skin already contains, and the aim is
a rested, natural look, never an “overdone” face.

[Discover Dermal Fillers and Face Contouring](https://bdrclinicmalta.com/treatments/dermal-fillers-and-face-contouring/)

### **Firming and thickening the skin: collagen-stimulating treatments**

![Morpheus8 Face Eye Neck Décollete Malta](https://bdrclinicmalta.com/wp-content/
uploads/2025/10/Morpheus8-Face-Eye-Neck-Decollete-Malta-1024x683.jpg)

When the skin itself has become thinner, treatments that encourage your own collagen
help the face look firmer and more lifted. At BDR these include:

 * **Morpheus8**, which combines microneedling with radiofrequency to tighten and
   remodel the skin
 * **Exilis Face Lifting**, a non-invasive radiofrequency treatment for gradual
   lifting
 * **MCH Mesoporation**, a needle-free way to deliver firming ingredients into the
   skin

[See Microneedling, Rejuvenation and Lifting treatments](https://bdrclinicmalta.com/treatments/microneedling-rejuvenation-and-lifting/)

### **Supporting skin quality: regenerative treatments**

For women who want to improve skin quality from within, the [Morphiya exosome facial](https://bdrclinicmalta.com/exosome-facial-morphiya/)
supports the skin’s own renewal, with gradual results over several weeks. It pairs
well with fillers, because good skin quality makes restored volume look more natural.

### **At home: keep your results going**

 * **NOON Aesthetics** professional skincare, such as the [In-Depth Filler™ Serum](https://bdrclinicmalta.com/product/in-depth-filler-serum/),
   for daily hydration and a smoother look, and a daily SPF.
 * **Swisscells**, Swiss skin-longevity skincare focused on elasticity and skin
   quality. [Explore Swisscells](https://bdrclinicmalta.com/brand/swisscells/)
 * **MyPureSkin** Swiss nutricosmetics, as part of a “beauty from within” routine.
   Supplements support your routine, they do not replace treatment. [Explore MyPureSkin](https://bdrclinicmalta.com/brand/mypureskin/)

## **What to expect at your consultation**

We will look at your face from every angle, talk about what bothers you most, and
explain which options fit your goals and budget. Pricing is always confirmed at
your consultation, based on your personal plan. There is no pressure to book anything
on the day.

## **Frequently asked questions**

### **At what age does facial volume loss start?**

Many women start to notice it in their mid to late thirties. It often becomes more
visible in the forties and around menopause, when collagen loss speeds up.

### **Is facial volume loss the same as sagging?**

They are connected but not the same. Volume loss is about less fat and bone support.
Sagging is about looser skin. Most women have a mix of both, which is why a combined
plan usually works best.

### **Will fillers make my face look fake?**

Not when they are placed carefully and in the right amount. The aim is to replace
what was lost so you look rested, like yourself on a good day.

### **How long do dermal filler results last?**

It depends on the area and the product. Many results last 6 to 12 months or longer.
Your practitioner will tell you what to expect for your plan.

### **Can I treat facial volume loss without fillers?**

Collagen-stimulating and regenerative treatments can improve firmness and skin quality,
which makes the face look fresher. They do not replace lost volume in the same way
fillers do. A consultation helps you choose.

### **Does losing weight cause facial volume loss?**

Weight loss can make the face look thinner, but many women notice volume loss with
no change in weight at all. That is the natural ageing process described above.

## **Ready to look as rested as you feel?**

If your reflection looks more tired than you feel, a professional assessment is
the best first step. Our team in Birkirkara will help you understand what is changing
and which treatments make sense for you.

## Why Is My Jawline Changing? The Hidden Signs of Facial Aging Women Notice First

- Link: https://bdrclinicmalta.com/jawline-aging-women/
- Published: 2026-06-22T17:25:10+00:00
- Author: nancy.conde.blandon@gmail.com

Have you ever looked at a recent photo of yourself and thought:

_“My face looks different, but I can’t quite explain why.”_

For many women, one of the earliest signs of facial aging is not wrinkles.

It is the jawline.

The face may still look healthy, the skin may still be smooth, and there may not
be many visible lines. Yet something feels different. The lower face appears softer,
the jawline less defined, and the overall facial shape may seem less sculpted than
before.

These changes can happen gradually over several years, making them difficult to
notice day by day. Often, women only realize the difference when comparing photos
taken a few years apart.

At BDR Clinic Malta, concerns about jawline definition and lower face aging are
becoming increasingly common among women who want to understand why their facial
contours are changing and what options are available to support healthier-looking
skin.

## **Why Does the Jawline Change With Age?**

Many people assume the jawline changes because of weight gain.

While weight fluctuations can influence facial appearance, they are often only part
of the story.

The reality is that several natural aging processes occur beneath the skin long
before they become visible.

### **Collagen Production Slows Down**

Collagen is one of the proteins responsible for keeping skin firm and supported.

Beginning in our late twenties and continuing throughout adulthood, collagen production
gradually decreases.

As collagen levels decline, skin becomes less capable of maintaining its structure
and firmness.

This often affects the jawline before many women notice changes elsewhere.

### **Skin Loses Elasticity**

Elasticity allows the skin to return to its original position after movement.

Over time, elastin fibers naturally decline.

As a result, skin may appear less tight and more prone to sagging.

### **Facial Fat Distribution Changes**

The face contains natural fat compartments that help create youthful contours.

As we age, these fat pads can shift, shrink, or descend slightly.

This process can make the lower face appear heavier while reducing definition around
the jawline.

### **Bone Structure Changes**

One factor that surprises many people is that facial bones also change over time.

These subtle structural changes can affect how the skin and soft tissues are supported.

The result may be a less defined facial profile.

## **Early Signs Your Jawline Is Changing**

Most women do not wake up one day with a dramatically different jawline.

The changes are usually subtle at first.

### **Your Face Looks Less Defined in Photos**

Many women first notice the difference when looking at photographs.

The jawline may appear softer than it did a few years earlier.

### **The Lower Face Feels Heavier**

The skin may still be healthy, but the lower portion of the face seems less lifted.

### **Makeup Doesn’t Look the Same**

Some women notice that contouring products no longer create the same effect they
once did.

### **Your Neck and Jawline Blend Together More**

A well-defined separation between the jawline and neck may become less visible over
time.

### **You Notice Small Areas of Sagging**

Even mild changes in skin support can affect the appearance of the lower face.

## **Is It Normal to Notice These Changes in Your 30s?**

![Professional skin assessment for jawline aging and collagen loss at BDR Clinic
Malta](https://bdrclinicmalta.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/facial-firmness-treatment-
malta-1-1024x532.webp)

Yes.

One of the biggest misconceptions about facial aging is that it only begins in your
fifties or sixties.

In reality, many women begin noticing subtle structural changes during their thirties.

The speed at which these changes occur depends on several factors:

 * Genetics
 * Sun exposure
 * Lifestyle habits
 * Hormonal changes
 * Stress levels
 * Skincare habits
 * Overall skin health

For some women, changes appear slowly. For others, they seem to happen much more
quickly.

## **The Role of 󠀁[Sun Exposure](https://bdrclinicmalta.com/melasma-treatment-malta/)󠁿 in Malta**

Living in Malta means enjoying sunshine for much of the year.

However, long-term UV exposure is one of the most significant contributors to [premature aging.](https://bdrclinicmalta.com/summer-skin-treatments-malta/)

Repeated sun exposure accelerates:

 * Collagen breakdown
 * Loss of elasticity
 * Skin thinning
 * Visible aging

Even if you wear sunscreen regularly today, years of accumulated exposure may still
influence how your skin ages.

This is one reason why maintaining skin health becomes increasingly important over
time.

## **Why Many Women Feel They Look Tired**

Interestingly, jawline changes often affect more than facial contours.

They can influence how others perceive us.

A softer lower face may contribute to an appearance that seems:

 * More tired
 * Less refreshed
 * Older than you feel
 * Less defined

This is why many women seek professional advice even before significant wrinkles
appear.

The issue is not always the skin itself.

It is often the underlying support structure.

## **Can Skincare Products Improve Jawline Definition?**

Quality skincare plays an important role in maintaining healthy skin.

Medical-grade skincare can help improve:

 * Hydration
 * Skin texture
 * Barrier function
 * Overall skin quality

However, skincare products have limitations.

When jawline changes are primarily related to collagen loss, elasticity reduction,
and structural aging, topical products alone may not fully address the concern.

This is why many women explore professional in-clinic treatments designed to support
deeper[ skin regeneration](https://bdrclinicmalta.com/exosome-facial-morphiya/)
and collagen stimulation.

## **How Modern In-Clinic Treatments Support Skin Firmness**

Today’s aesthetic medicine focuses increasingly on supporting the skin’s natural
regenerative processes.

Rather than simply masking signs of aging, modern treatments aim to encourage healthier
skin function and collagen production.

Depending on individual needs, treatment plans may focus on:

### **󠀁[Supporting Collagen Stimulation](https://bdrclinicmalta.com/microneedling-morpheus8-morphiya/)󠁿**

Collagen is essential for maintaining skin structure and firmness.

### **󠀁[Improving Skin Quality](https://bdrclinicmalta.com/chemical-peels-malta/)󠁿**

Healthier skin often appears firmer, smoother, and more resilient.

### **Enhancing Skin Elasticity**

Supporting elasticity may help improve the overall appearance of the lower face.

### **Addressing 󠀁[Multiple Signs of Aging](https://bdrclinicmalta.com/top-skin-concerns-malta/)󠁿**

Comprehensive treatment plans often target several concerns at the same time, including
skin texture, firmness, hydration, and overall skin health.

At BDR Clinic Malta, treatment recommendations are always personalised based on
each patient’s skin condition, concerns, and goals.

## **Why Prevention Is Easier Than Correction**

One of the most valuable lessons in skin health is that prevention often delivers
the best long-term results.

Supporting collagen production and skin quality before significant changes occur
may help maintain a more youthful appearance for longer.

Many women today are choosing proactive skin health strategies rather than waiting
until visible aging becomes more advanced.

## **Healthy Skin Is About More Than Appearance**

A defined jawline is often associated with youthfulness, but the bigger picture
is skin health.

When the skin has strong collagen support, good elasticity, and healthy regeneration
processes, it tends to look and feel better overall.

Understanding why your jawline is changing is not about chasing perfection.

It is about recognizing the natural processes occurring beneath the surface and
learning how modern skin treatments can support healthier aging.

If you have noticed changes in your facial contours, lower face, or jawline definition,
a professional skin assessment can help identify contributing factors and determine
which options may be most appropriate for your individual needs.

At BDR Clinic Malta, we believe that informed decisions, personalised care, and
a long-term approach to skin health are the foundation of natural-looking results
and lasting confidence.

## Sun Damage in Malta: The Skin Changes That Appear Years Before You Notice Them

Living in Malta has many advantages. Beautiful weather, outdoor living, stunning
coastlines, and over 300 days of sunshine each year make it one of the most attractive
places to live and visit.

But there is one downside many people underestimate: sun damage.

Most people think sun damage only happens when they get sunburned. In reality, the
effects of UV exposure can build up slowly over many years, often without any visible
warning signs at first.

By the time many women notice changes in their skin, the damage may have been developing
beneath the surface for a decade or more.

At BDR Clinic Malta, one of the most common concerns we see is skin that appears
older, less radiant, and more uneven than expected. In many cases, long-term sun
exposure plays a significant role.

## **What Is Sun Damage?**

[Sun damage](https://bdrclinicmalta.com/summer-skin-treatments-malta/) occurs when
ultraviolet (UV) rays penetrate the skin and gradually affect its structure.

Unlike a cut or bruise, sun damage is not always immediately visible.

You can spend years enjoying outdoor activities, commuting, walking by the sea,
dining outdoors, or simply living in a sunny climate without realizing how much
cumulative exposure your skin is receiving.

Over time, this exposure can affect:

 * Collagen production
 * Skin elasticity
 * Skin texture
 * Pigmentation
 * Hydration levels
 * Overall skin health

The result is often referred to as **photoaging**, which means premature aging caused
by sun exposure.

## **Why Is Sun Damage So Common in Malta?**

![Early signs of sun damage and photoaging on facial skin in Malta](https://bdrclinicmalta.
com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/sun-damage-malta-skin-aging-1024x532.webp)

Malta’s climate is one of the main reasons.

Many residents and visitors spend a significant amount of time outdoors throughout
the year.

Even during cooler months, UV radiation can still affect the skin.

Common sources of daily exposure include:

 * Walking to work
 * Driving
 * Outdoor dining
 * Beach visits
 * Boat trips
 * Sports activities
 * Everyday errands

Because exposure happens gradually, many people do not realize the impact until
visible signs begin to appear.

## **Early Signs of Sun Damage**

One of the biggest misconceptions is that sun damage only causes dark spots.

In reality, the earliest signs are often much more subtle.

### **Skin Looks Duller Than Before**

Many women notice their skin no longer has the same glow it once did.

The complexion may appear tired, uneven, or less vibrant.

### **Fine Lines Appear Earlier**

Repeated UV exposure accelerates collagen breakdown, making fine lines appear sooner
than expected.

### **Skin Feels Less Firm**

Loss of elasticity is one of the most common consequences of cumulative sun exposure.

### **Uneven Skin Tone**

Areas of pigmentation may begin to appear, creating patches of darker skin or an
overall uneven complexion.

### **Increased Skin Sensitivity**

Damaged skin can become more reactive and less resilient over time.

## **The Signs That Often Appear Later**

As sun damage progresses, more visible changes may develop.

These can include:

 * Sunspots
 * Age spots
 * [Persistent pigmentation](https://bdrclinicmalta.com/melasma-treatment-malta/)
 * Deeper wrinkles
 * Rough skin texture
 * Enlarged pores
 * Loss of facial firmness
 * More [visible signs of aging](https://bdrclinicmalta.com/top-skin-concerns-malta/)

Many people are surprised to learn that these changes are often connected to years
of accumulated UV exposure rather than recent sun exposure alone.

## **Why Sunscreen Is Important, But Not the Whole Solution**

Sunscreen remains one of the most important tools for protecting skin health.

Daily sun protection can help reduce future damage and support healthier skin over
time.

However, many women arrive at a point where they ask:

_“What can I do about the damage that already exists?”_

This is where professional skin treatments may help.

While prevention is essential, modern in-clinic treatments are designed to address
visible signs of sun damage and support healthier-looking skin.

![sun damage Malta](https://bdrclinicmalta.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/sun-damage-
Malta-1024x532.webp)

## **How Professional Treatments Can Help**

The most effective approach depends on the individual’s skin condition, concerns,
and goals.

At BDR Clinic Malta, treatment plans are tailored to each person following a professional
skin assessment.

Depending on the level of sun damage present, treatment options may focus on:

### **Improving Skin Texture**

Healthy [skin renewal](https://bdrclinicmalta.com/chemical-peels-malta/) can help
improve rough or uneven texture.

### **Supporting Collagen Production**

[Collagen stimulation treatments](https://bdrclinicmalta.com/microneedling-morpheus8-morphiya/)
may help improve firmness and overall skin quality.

### **Addressing Pigmentation**

Professional protocols can help target visible discoloration and uneven skin tone.

### **Enhancing Skin Radiance**

Many patients seek treatments that help restore a fresher, healthier-looking complexion.

### **Improving Overall Skin Quality**

Rather than focusing on a single concern, comprehensive treatment plans often address
multiple signs of sun damage simultaneously.

## **Can Sun Damage Be Reversed?**

This is one of the most common questions patients ask.

The answer depends on the severity of the damage and individual skin factors.

While no treatment can completely erase every effect of years of UV exposure, many
modern skin therapies can significantly improve the appearance and quality of the
skin.

The earlier concerns are identified, the more options may be available to support
[skin regeneration ](https://bdrclinicmalta.com/exosome-facial-morphiya/)and long-
term skin health.

## **Protecting Your Skin Moving Forward**

Whether you are in your thirties, forties, fifties, or beyond, it is never too late
to start protecting your skin.

Simple habits can make a meaningful difference:

 * Use sunscreen daily
 * Wear protective clothing when possible
 * Avoid excessive sun exposure during peak hours
 * Maintain a healthy skincare routine
 * Seek professional advice when concerns appear

Consistency is often more important than perfection.

## **Healthy Skin Is a Long-Term Investment**

Many of the visible signs associated with aging are not caused by age alone.

In a sunny country like Malta, sun exposure plays a major role in how skin changes
over time.

Understanding the connection between UV exposure, collagen loss, pigmentation, and
skin quality can help you make informed decisions about your skin health.

If you have noticed uneven skin tone, reduced firmness, pigmentation, or other changes
that concern you, a professional skin assessment can help identify the factors involved
and determine the most appropriate treatment options.

At BDR Clinic Malta, we believe that prevention, education, and personalised treatment
plans are the foundation of healthier skin. Understanding sun damage today may help
protect and improve your skin for years to come.

## Why Is My Skin Suddenly Sagging? Understanding Collagen Loss in Women After 35

Have you looked in the mirror recently and felt like your face looks different,
even though your weight has not changed?

Maybe your jawline is not as defined as it used to be. Perhaps your cheeks seem
less lifted, your skin feels thinner, or your face simply looks more tired than
before.

For many women, these changes can appear gradually, but sometimes they seem to happen
almost overnight.

One day your skin looks firm and youthful. The next, you notice sagging around the
lower face, less definition around the jawline, and a loss of the natural volume
that once gave your face a fresh appearance.

The reason is often linked to one of the most important components of healthy skin:
collagen.

At BDR Clinic Malta, many women seek answers about facial sagging, loss of firmness,
and visible [signs of aging](https://bdrclinicmalta.com/top-skin-concerns-malta/).
Understanding why these changes happen is the first step toward finding the right
solution.

## **What Is Collagen and Why Is It So Important?**

Collagen is the most abundant protein in the human body and acts as the structural
support system for your skin.

Think of collagen as the framework that helps keep skin firm, smooth, and resilient.

When collagen levels are healthy, skin tends to appear:

 * Firmer
 * More elastic
 * Better hydrated
 * More youthful
 * More resistant to wrinkles and sagging

Unfortunately, collagen production naturally decreases with age.

Starting in our mid to late twenties, collagen production begins to slow down. By
the time many women reach their mid-thirties and forties, the effects become much
more noticeable.

The skin gradually loses its ability to repair and renew itself at the same speed
as before.

loss-of-skin-firmness-1024x532.webp)

## **Why Does Skin Sagging Become More Noticeable After 35?**

Many women ask:

_“Why does my face suddenly look older?”_

The truth is that facial aging is usually the result of several factors working
together.

### **Natural Collagen Loss**

The body’s collagen production decreases year after year.

As collagen declines, the skin becomes less capable of maintaining its firmness
and structure.

### **Reduced Elastin**

Elastin is another essential protein that allows skin to bounce back after movement.

As elastin decreases, skin becomes less flexible and more prone to sagging.

### **Loss of Facial Volume**

Over time, natural fat pads in the face begin to shift and reduce in volume.

This can create:

 * Hollow cheeks
 * More visible folds
 * A heavier lower face
 * Less facial definition

### **Hormonal Changes**

Hormonal fluctuations can significantly affect skin quality.

Women may notice accelerated changes during:

 * Perimenopause
 * Menopause
 * Periods of high stress
 * Major life transitions

### **Sun Exposure**

Living in Malta means enjoying beautiful sunshine for much of the year.

However, [long-term UV exposure ](https://bdrclinicmalta.com/summer-skin-treatments-malta/)
is one of the biggest causes of premature collagen breakdown.

Even women who do not spend hours sunbathing can accumulate[ sun damage](https://bdrclinicmalta.com/melasma-treatment-malta/)
over the years.

## **Signs You May Be Experiencing Collagen Loss**

Collagen loss does not always start with deep wrinkles.

Many women notice more subtle changes first.

Common signs include:

### **A Less Defined Jawline**

One of the earliest concerns women mention is that their jawline appears softer
than before.

The face may lose some of its natural contour and definition.

### **Sagging Around the Lower Face**

The lower face often shows signs of aging before other areas.

You may notice:

 * Heavier cheeks
 * Less facial lift
 * Early jowling

### **Fine Lines That Stay Longer**

Lines that once disappeared after smiling may become more visible and persistent.

### **Thinner Skin**

Skin can start to look more fragile and less resilient.

### **A Tired Appearance**

Many women say:

_“I feel fine, but I look tired all the time.”_

Collagen loss can contribute significantly to this appearance.

## **Can Lifestyle Affect Collagen Loss?**

Yes.

While aging is inevitable, several factors can accelerate collagen breakdown.

### **Excessive Sun Exposure**

UV rays are one of the leading causes of premature skin aging.

### **Smoking**

Smoking damages collagen and reduces blood flow to the skin.

### **Poor Nutrition**

A diet lacking essential nutrients can affect the skin’s ability to repair itself.

### **Chronic Stress**

Long-term stress may contribute to inflammation and faster aging.

### **Lack of Sleep**

Sleep is essential for skin regeneration and recovery.

## **Why Creams Alone Are Not Always Enough**

Many women invest in expensive skincare products hoping to reverse sagging skin.

While quality skincare is important, there is an important reality to understand.

Once collagen levels have significantly declined, topical products alone may not
be enough to rebuild the deeper structures responsible for skin firmness.

This is why many women eventually explore professional in-clinic treatments designed
to support [collagen stimulation and skin regeneration](https://bdrclinicmalta.com/microneedling-morpheus8-morphiya/).

## **How Modern In-Clinic Treatments Help Stimulate Collagen**

Today, aesthetic medicine focuses less on simply covering signs of aging and more
on supporting the [skin’s natural regenerative processes.](https://bdrclinicmalta.com/exosome-facial-morphiya/)

The goal is not to change your face.

The goal is to help your skin function more like it did when it was younger.

Depending on your individual needs, treatment plans may include technologies and
protocols designed to support:

 * [Skin renewal](https://bdrclinicmalta.com/chemical-peels-malta/)
 * Collagen stimulation
 * Improved skin texture
 * Better elasticity
 * Enhanced skin quality

At BDR Clinic Malta, treatment recommendations are always tailored to the individual’s
skin condition, concerns, and goals.

## **Why Early Intervention Matters**

One of the biggest misconceptions about skin aging is that women should wait until
the signs become severe before seeking professional advice.

In reality, earlier intervention often allows for better long-term outcomes.

Supporting collagen production before significant sagging develops can help maintain
skin quality and slow the visible effects of aging.

This proactive approach is becoming increasingly popular among women who want natural-
looking results rather than dramatic changes.

## **Is It Possible to Restore Firmer-Looking Skin?**

![collagen stimulation Malta](https://bdrclinicmalta.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/
06/collagen-stimulation-Malta-1024x532.webp)

Every person’s skin is different, and results vary based on factors such as age,
lifestyle, genetics, and overall skin health.

However, many women see noticeable improvements in:

 * Skin texture
 * Firmness
 * Elasticity
 * Hydration
 * Overall skin appearance

when appropriate treatment plans are combined with medical-grade skincare and healthy
lifestyle habits.

The key is understanding the underlying cause of the concern rather than simply
treating the visible symptoms.

## **Taking the First Step**

If you have noticed changes in your skin’s firmness, jawline definition, or overall
appearance, you are not alone.

Collagen loss is a natural part of aging, but understanding what is happening beneath
the surface can help you make informed decisions about your skin health.

Modern regenerative treatments and professional skin assessments can provide valuable
insight into what your skin needs and which options may be most appropriate for
your individual goals.

At BDR Clinic Malta, we believe that healthy, beautiful skin begins with understanding
the science behind the changes you see in the mirror and creating a personalised
plan designed specifically for you.

Whether you are starting to notice early signs of aging or simply want to learn
more about maintaining skin quality over time, professional guidance can help you
navigate the many options available today and choose a path that supports long-term
skin health and confidence.

Malta’s Mediterranean lifestyle offers sunshine, beautiful coastlines, and outdoor

island attractive can also have a significant impact on skin health.

High UV exposure, humidity, sea salt, wind, and prolonged air-conditioning use contribute
to some of the most common skin concerns affecting both locals and expatriates.
As a result, many people search for solutions to pigmentation, acne, dehydration,
and skin health concerns every day.

## **1. Hyperpigmentation and Sun Damage**

One of the most common skin concerns in Malta is hyperpigmentation. With over 300
days of sunshine per year, the skin is constantly exposed to UV radiation, which
can trigger excess melanin production and lead to uneven skin tone.

Common forms of pigmentation include:

 * Melasma
 * Sunspots
 * Age spots
 * Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation
 * Uneven skin tone
 * Dull complexion

Many people notice pigmentation becoming more visible after summer holidays, years
of sun exposure, hormonal changes, or previous acne breakouts.

### **Signs of Sun Damage**

 * Brown or dark patches on the face
 * Uneven skin tone
 * Fine lines and wrinkles
 * Loss of skin radiance
 * Premature ageing

### **Treatments for Hyperpigmentation**

Modern aesthetic medicine offers effective solutions for improving skin tone and
reducing pigmentation.

At Noon Aesthetics Malta and BDR Clinic Malta, treatment options may include:

 * Professional skin brightening protocols
 * Medical-grade Vitamin C treatments
 * Advanced chemical peels
 * Microneedling
 * Exosome-based skin regeneration
 * Skin resurfacing treatments
 * Personalised skincare programs

Combining in-clinic treatments with professional home care often delivers the best
long-term results for pigmentation and sun-damaged skin.

## **2. Acne and Adult Breakouts**

Acne is no longer a concern limited to teenagers. Adult acne has become increasingly
common among both men and women in Malta.

Several factors can contribute to breakouts, including:

 * Hormonal fluctuations
 * Stress
 * Humidity
 * Poor skincare routines
 * Environmental pollution
 * Certain medications
 * Lifestyle factors

Searches for acne treatment in Malta, acne facials, and acne scar removal continue
to grow as more adults seek professional solutions for persistent breakouts.

### **Common Acne Concerns**

 * Active acne
 * Blackheads and congestion
 * Enlarged pores
 * Redness and inflammation
 * Acne scars
 * Uneven skin texture

### **Advanced Acne Treatments**

The most effective acne treatments address both active breakouts and the underlying
causes.

Available solutions may include:

 * Medical acne facials
 * Chemical peels
 * Microneedling for acne scars
 * LED light therapy
 * Exosome treatments
 * Professional skincare programs

At BDR Clinic Malta, treatment plans are tailored according to the severity of acne,
skin type, and long-term skin goals.

## **3. Skin Cancer Awareness and Mole Monitoring**

As awareness around skin cancer continues to grow in Malta, more people are paying
attention to changes in their skin and seeking professional advice regarding moles
and skin lesions.

The island’s high UV exposure makes regular skin monitoring particularly important.

People commonly search for:

 * Skin cancer screening
 * Mole checks
 * Suspicious mole assessment
 * Mole removal
 * Skin lesion evaluation

### **Warning Signs Not to Ignore**

It is important to seek professional medical advice if you notice:

 * Changes in size, shape, or colour of a mole
 * Irregular borders
 * Persistent itching
 * Bleeding
 * Rapid growth
 * New lesions appearing unexpectedly

Early detection remains one of the most important factors in managing skin health
successfully.

### **Protecting Your Skin**

Simple preventative measures include:

 * Daily SPF protection
 * Wearing hats and protective clothing
 * Avoiding excessive midday sun exposure
 * Scheduling regular skin assessments
 * Maintaining a professional skincare routine

Healthy skin is not only about appearance. It is also about long-term wellbeing
and prevention.

## **4. Dehydrated Skin**

Despite Malta’s humidity, dehydrated skin is one of the most common complaints seen
in aesthetic clinics across the island.

Many people confuse dry skin with dehydrated skin, but they are not the same condition.

Dehydrated skin lacks water, while dry skin lacks oil.

Environmental factors that contribute to dehydration include:

 * Air conditioning
 * Wind exposure
 * Sun exposure
 * Saltwater
 * Insufficient hydration
 * Harsh skincare products

### **Symptoms of Dehydrated Skin**

 * Tightness
 * Flakiness
 * Dull appearance
 * Increased sensitivity
 * Fine dehydration lines
 * Loss of radiance

### **Treatments for Dehydrated Skin**

Modern skin hydration treatments can restore moisture levels and strengthen the
skin barrier.

Popular options include:

 * Hyaluronic Acid boosters
 * Hydrating facials
 * Advanced skin rejuvenation treatments
 * Exosome therapy
 * Professional skincare solutions

Many clients notice immediate improvements in skin texture, glow, and comfort following
targeted hydration treatments.

Melasma is one of the most common skin concerns affecting people living in sunny
climates like Malta. If you have noticed brown or greyish patches appearing on your
cheeks, forehead, upper lip, or chin, you may be dealing with this persistent form
of hyperpigmentation.

While melasma is not harmful to your health, it can affect confidence and become
increasingly difficult to manage without professional support. Fortunately, advances
in aesthetic medicine have made it possible to significantly improve the appearance
of melasma and restore a brighter, more even complexion.

At Noon Aesthetics Malta and BDR Clinic Malta in Birkirkara, we specialise in personalised
pigmentation treatments using some of the world’s leading aesthetic technologies,
medical-grade skincare brands, and advanced skin rejuvenation procedures.

## **What Is Melasma?**

Melasma is a skin condition that causes dark patches of pigmentation to develop
on the face. It occurs when melanocytes, the cells responsible for producing pigment,
become overactive and produce excess melanin.

The condition most commonly appears on:

 * Cheeks
 * Forehead
 * Upper lip
 * Nose
 * Chin

Unlike ordinary sunspots, melasma often develops deeper within the skin, making
it more challenging to treat with standard cosmetic products alone.

Although melasma can affect both men and women, it is particularly common among
women and often develops during periods of hormonal change.

Available-in-Malta-1024x532.webp)

## **Why Is Melasma So Common in Malta?**

Malta’s beautiful Mediterranean climate is one of the reasons many people choose
to live here. However, constant sun exposure is also one of the main triggers for
pigmentation concerns.

### **High UV Exposure**

With sunshine throughout most of the year, the skin is regularly exposed to ultraviolet
radiation. UV rays stimulate melanin production, which can worsen existing pigmentation
and trigger new melasma flare-ups.

### **Heat and Climate**

Research has shown that heat itself can contribute to melasma. During Malta’s warmer
months, prolonged exposure to high temperatures may aggravate pigmentation even
when sunscreen is being used.

### **Hormonal Changes**

Pregnancy, contraceptive pills, hormone replacement therapy, and hormonal fluctuations
can all increase the likelihood of developing melasma.

### **Genetic Factors**

Some individuals are genetically more prone to pigmentation disorders and may develop
melasma even with moderate sun exposure.

## **Signs You May Have Melasma**

Melasma often appears as symmetrical patches on both sides of the face.

Common signs include:

 * Brown or grey-brown patches
 * Pigmentation on the cheeks
 * Darkening above the upper lip
 * Uneven skin tone
 * Pigmentation that becomes darker after sun exposure
 * Persistent patches that do not fade easily

Because other pigmentation disorders can sometimes look similar, professional assessment
is essential before beginning any treatment.

## **Can Melasma Be Prevented?**

While melasma cannot always be completely prevented, several measures can help reduce
its severity and minimise future flare-ups.

### **Wear SPF Daily**

Daily SPF 50+ protection is one of the most important steps for anyone prone to
pigmentation.

### **Limit Excessive Sun Exposure**

Avoiding direct sunlight during peak UV hours can significantly reduce melanin stimulation.

### **Use Professional Skincare**

Medical-grade skincare products specifically designed for pigmentation can help
support treatment outcomes and protect the skin from further damage.

### **Seek Early Professional Advice**

The earlier melasma is addressed, the easier it is to manage and improve.

## **Why There Is No Single Treatment for Melasma**

One of the biggest misconceptions about melasma is that there is one treatment that
works for everyone.

The reality is very different.

Every case of melasma is unique. Factors such as skin type, pigmentation depth,
hormonal influences, sun exposure, age, lifestyle, and medical history all play
a role in determining the most effective treatment approach.

For this reason, successful melasma treatment requires a personalised strategy rather
than a one-size-fits-all solution.

At Noon Aesthetics Malta and BDR Clinic Malta, every client receives an individual
assessment before any treatment recommendations are made.

## **Advanced Melasma Treatments Available at BDR Clinic Malta**

Our clinic offers a comprehensive range of professional treatments designed to address
different forms and severities of pigmentation.

### **Professional Chemical Peels**

Chemical peels help exfoliate damaged skin cells and encourage cellular renewal.
Depending on the skin’s condition, different peel formulations may be recommended
to target pigmentation while maintaining skin health.

### **Microneedling**

Microneedling stimulates the skin’s natural repair process and can improve skin
texture, overall tone, and the appearance of pigmentation concerns.

### **Exosome Therapy**

Exosome-based treatments represent one of the most exciting developments in regenerative
aesthetics. These advanced therapies help support skin repair and rejuvenation while
improving overall skin quality.

### **Skin Rejuvenation Protocols**

Many pigmentation concerns benefit from comprehensive skin rejuvenation programmes
that focus on improving skin health while gradually reducing visible pigmentation.

### **Medical-Grade Home Care**

Professional home care is often one of the most important components of melasma
management. The right products can help maintain results, protect the skin, and
minimise future pigmentation flare-ups.

## **Access to Some of the World’s Leading Aesthetic Brands**

What makes Noon Aesthetics Malta and BDR Clinic Malta different is our ability to
customise treatment plans using a wide range of internationally recognised brands,
technologies, and protocols.

Rather than relying on a single product line or treatment system, we carefully select
the most suitable solution for each individual.

Our clinic works with advanced aesthetic and skincare brands including:

 * NOON Aesthetics
 * BDR The Medical Beauty Concept
 * Morphiya Exosomes
 * MyPureSkin Swiss
 * ProfiDerm Laboratoires
 * SkinEdit Paris Laboratories

This allows our specialists to combine different products and procedures according
to each client’s unique skin condition, pigmentation severity, and long-term goals.

Because every skin journey is different, treatment plans are designed specifically
for the individual rather than following a standard protocol.

## **Why Professional Assessment Matters**

Many people spend months or even years trying over-the-counter products that promise
to eliminate pigmentation.

Unfortunately, melasma is often more complex than ordinary sunspots.

Without proper diagnosis and treatment planning, some products and procedures can
worsen pigmentation or create additional skin sensitivity.

Professional assessment helps determine:

 * Whether the pigmentation is truly melasma
 * How deep the pigmentation extends
 * Which treatments are most appropriate
 * Which ingredients should be avoided
 * How to maintain long-term results

## **Why Choose Noon Aesthetics Malta and BDR Clinic Malta in Birkirkara?**

Located in Birkirkara, Noon Aesthetics Malta and BDR Clinic Malta have become trusted
destinations for advanced skin treatments and pigmentation management.

Our approach combines:

 * Personalised consultations
 * Advanced technologies
 * Medical-grade skincare
 * Regenerative aesthetic treatments
 * Long-term skin health strategies

with both visible results and long-term skin health in mind.
